Cinco De Mayo is a day Mexicans celebrate the day of their armie's victory against the French at the battle of Puebla on March fifth. They declared independance on the fifteenth of September, 1810.
What happened at the day of the war?
What happened was this:
The French had landed in Mexico (along with Spanish and English troops) five months earlier on the pretext of collecting Mexican debts from the newly elected government of democratic President (and Indian) Benito Juarez. The English and Spanish quickly made deals and left. The French, however, had different ideas. They wanted to rule Mexico. On the day of the attack, the French were more stylish than the Mexicans, they also were not afraid of anyone. But the Mexican soldiers still crushed the French army.
